If you’ve ever called up a limo service, and then seen that magnificent stretch vehicle arriving in front of your pickup point, it may have occurred to you to wonder what kind of car that is, exactly. It may not even be a stretch limousine, but rather just a fancy car like a town car or a supremely luxurious SUV. While almost any luxury-spec car can serve as a limo service car, there are some used more commonly, especially those of Cadillac and Lincoln. They are as follows:
The Lincoln Town Car
The classic non-stretch variant of many a limo was the Lincoln Town Car, especially in the US. It was produced from 1980 all the way up to 2011 in three different generations and multiple variants. The third-generation models used a 4.6L Modular SOHC V8 engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission. Despite its low-speed smooth-ride limo service use, the car was actually quite capable, with engines at least outputting 205hp and 280lb-ft of torque, and often with more power.
The Cadillac XTS
The XTS stands for X-Series Touring Sedan, and this model was often favored for its modern look of prestige and grandeur, while also being a generally reliable and well-built model. It was built with a 3.6L V6 turbocharged gasoline engine, delivering some 410hp and 369lb-ft of torque. A lower spec 2.0L engine (to get around tax issues) was introduced and used for limo services in China, as well as being popular with regular consumers.
Two popular SUVs often used as part of a limo service are the Lincoln Navigator and the Cadillac Escalade. Both offer three seating rows, as well as ample luggage space and abundant opulence and comfort. Despite its huge size, the newest Lincoln Navigator runs on a Ford EcoBoost 3.5L V6 engine. The Cadillac is a little more generous, offering a huge 6.2L V8.
In the modern age of ridesharing, however, the variety of cars that fit into the more luxurious bracket is expanding. Many still look to the trusty dedicated limo service however, especially for those novelty stretch cars that give so much energy to a special occasion. Nothing says “today matters” like a decadent stretch limousine.
